HYDROLOGIC MONITORING PLAN
SOUTHFIELD MINE AND LOADOUT
GROUNDWATER SURFACE WATER AND IN-MINE MONITORING
I. Surface Drainage Flow Sampling
A. Monitoring locations
Magpie Creek in diversion adjacent to mine
Newlin Creek near GEC Pits
Second Alkali Creek near MW-65
Oak Creek near Sedimentation Pond L-2
B. Sampling Frequency and Procedure
1. Water quality and flow data will be collected at the
Newlin Creek and Oak Creek monitoring locations quarterly.
2. Magpie Creek is an ephemeral drainage. Water samples will
be collected on an opportunistic basis. A crest stage
gage and bottle sample have been installed to measure peak
flows and collect water samples during significant flow
events.
3. Second Alkali Creek is an ephemeral drainage. Water
samples will be collected on a opportunistic basis. A
crest stage gauge and bottle sampler will be installed to
measure peak flows and collect water samples during
significant flow events.
C. Samp ling Procedure
1. The following information will be provided on each sample
bottle label:
- Station/Well designation
- Date and time
- Bottle number
- Analysis code
- Individuals initials
2. Samples will be collected in such a manner as to minimize
physical disturbance at the sample point.
3. Sampling devices will be cleaned prior to use and samples
will be placed in clean sample containers which will be
sealed at the sampling site.
4. Samples will be placed in a cooler with ice immediately
after collection and will be shipped within 24 hours to a
laboratory for analysis.
