TECHNICAL MEMORANDUM <br />AmerAlia, Inc. <br />October 14, 1994 <br />Page 10 <br />4.4 Yellow Creek Tributary <br />An unnamed tributary to Yellow Creek drains the northern part of the Project area. A gaging station on <br />this drainage (#09306246) has period of record from 1975 to 1977. This drainage is ephemeral with only <br />three months reporting any flows. These flows were apparently in response to precipitation events and <br />snowmelt. Recorded flows ranged from 0 to 3.2 cfs. This drainage was dry during the field survey in <br />September 1999. Stream flow of Yellow Creek Tributary occurs for short periods, principally from <br />overland runoff. The chemical samples of these sites tend to represent minerals that were available in <br />the basin soils, rather than in alluvial or bedrock aquifers. In intermittent streams, calcium and <br />bicarbonate are the characteristic ions in water samples containing less than 300 mgll dissolved solids <br />(TDS), magnesium and sulfate concentrations were characteristic of samples that exceeded 300 mg/l of <br />TDS (Tobin et al., 1985). <br />5.0 CONCLUSIONS <br />An extensive amount of surface and ground water quality and quantity data exists for the area <br />surrounding the Project site. In general, the bedrock ground water quality for all water-bearing zones is <br />similar, being of a sodium bicarbonate type with pH, TDS, and concentrations of trace constituents <br />increasing with depth. Water quality from the upper aquifer at the C-a Tract is sodium sulfate type. <br />Water quality from the upper and lower aquifers and Dissolution Surface zone is poor with very high pH <br />and concentrations of TDS and trace constituents. These waters do not meet standards for agricultural <br />purposes. There do not appear seasonal trends in the bedrock water quality. <br />The shallow alluvial ground water is sodium sulfate type with neutral pH and moderate concentrations of <br />TDS and trace constituents. There are seasonal trends in the shallow ground water quality. Water level <br />data were not available for alluvial wells. <br />One spring has been historically monitored in the project area, but was found dry during a recent spring <br />survey, two additional springs have been detected. <br />The surface water quality in the area streams varies from sodium bicarbonate for Yellow Creek, to <br />magnesium/sodium bicarbonate and magnesium/sodium sulfate bicarbonate type for upper and lower <br />Corral Gulch, and calcium bicarbonate type for Stakes Springs Draw and Tributary of Yellow Creek. <br />2ndFinalTechniul MemnEac 10/19/99 T/PC HYDRO-GEO CONSULTANTS <br />
