• indicates that the area to be mined is void of any amounts of
groundwater. Any groundwater occurrences in this area are probably not
continuous but rather a series of perched systems. Additional
information on groundwater occurrence is set forth in Section 2.04.7.
Drill Hole Logs
There are no drill hole logs for the permit area as no coal drilling has
been conducted. Given the permit area location, the A Coal Seam can be
readily mapped from outcrop locations and the overall consistency of the
seam.
2.04.7 Hydrology Information
Groundwater
The valley walls along Hay Gulch have intersected several coal seams and
• sandstone beds. The general direction of any minor groundwater flow
will follow the existing geological features in the general area.
Therefore, most of the groundwater would emerge in valley slopes as
seeps and springs. Any water discharged as a result of seeps and
springs is lost on the valley slopes or dries up during the later summer
months. The geology of the general area is discussed in detail in
Section 2.04.6.
Observations in the workings of the Peacock Coal Mine indicate that no
groundwater is present. The dip in the permit area is to the south;
therefore, any water that might drain into the workings would likewise
drain from the portals. No drainage of this type has occurred. The
fact that the Peacock Coal Mine workings are dry indicates that
generally unfavorable aquifer development or even groundwater
occurrences are present in the permit area.

2.04-13
