However, there was a small amount of water contained at the bottom
of the pond, and a sample was taken from this water. The results
were pH 7.2, TDS 336.0 mg/1, TSS 170.0 mg/1, sittable solids <.2
and total iron 5.36 mg/1. It is not possible to determine if an
exceedance occurred at this point because of the nature of the
sample.
ACTION TAKEN
A contractor excavated the breached area of the dam and then
replaced and recompacted the soil as per standard engineering
practices.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
The storm exceeded a 10 year 24 hour event, therefore, the permit
limits do not apply to the effluent. This is based on the fact that
the pond was designed to hold the 10 year, 24 hour event and it
did not do so. Another contributing factor that led to such a
large inflow of water was an irrigation ditch that crosses the
facilities drainage area overflowed its banks contributing a major
portion of the flow that entered the settling pond.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding this matter, please
feel free to contact me at 303-527-4135.
CYPRUS ORCHARD VALLE-Y~~~CO-AL CORPORATION
/ ~(v, ~ /~"LL
John H.
