resources were identified during the July 7, 1988,
reconnaissance. A surface water gauging and monitoring station
- was established at the mouth of the canyon to collect hydrologic
baseline data (Map 7, Regional Hydrology).
Cherry Canyon. This canyon has a drainage area of
735 acres which lies southeast of the surface facilities.
Drainage is in a southeasterly direction to the South Fork of the
Purqatoire River. Primary and secondary land uses are grazing
and wildlife habitat. Two stock ponds and one abandon windmill
site are located in the canyon to provide livestock water (Map 7,
Regional Hydrology). One spring/seep has also been identified.
No other land uses or resources have been recorded. A surface
water gauging and monitoring station was established at the mouth
of the canyon to collect hydrologic baseline data. WFC has
estimated peak flows in Cherry Canyon to be 5 cfs; while mean
24-hour discharges should range from 0.00001 to 0.1 cfs. These
flows were estimated using gaging data from Apache Canyon and
comparison of drainage areas between Apache and Cherry Canyon.
Wet Canyon. Wet Canyon is a large canyon (28,000 acres
drainage area) lying to the northeast of the surface facilities.
Only a portion of this canyon (2035 acres) is within the permit
area. Drainge is to the south to the Middle Fork of the
Purgatoire River. Several land uses including grazing, wildlife
habitat, residential, industrial (Robinson Sawmill) and the
Weston Town Dump exist in this canyon. A number of springs were
identified and sampled and a surface gauging and monitoring
station was established to collect hydrologic baseline data
(Map 7, Regional Hydrology). Residence of the canyon utilize
well water for domestic use. Wells at the home of Robinson and
Pace are approximately 80 to 90 feet deep with approximately l0
to 15 gpm yield and good quality. Side canyons which include
Sawmill and Pratt within and adjacent to the permit area are
similar to other small canyons of the area having land uses of
grazing and wildlife habitat with ephemeral stream flow. Some
timber and pine bouse harvest was noted in Sawmill Canyon.

2.04-24 (Revised 9/01/89)
(Revised 1/09/90)
