Dept. of i+!atural ~ eseurces
I represent Mrs. Grace Terry, an adjacent landowner to
the parcel which is the subject of an application of
Corn Construction Company, Grand Junction, Colorado, for
a permit to mine sand and gravel. Enclosed is a copy of
the legal notice published in the Grand Junction Daily
Sentinel which makes reference to the exact area and appli-
cation. Please consider this letter as a protest or objec-
tion on behalf of Mrs. Terry to the request for such a
permit.
Mrs. Terry has lived in the area immediately adjacent to
that land proposed for mining for many years. She moved
to this location in Grand Junction long before any grave].
mining occurred along the Colorado River near her home.
At one time, 44rs. Terry sold some gravel which was used
locally in the construction of I-70. She still owns gravel
on her land and has had many offers over the years to lease
that gravel. Those offers have been refused and will
continue to be refused in the future. The basis for Mrs.
Terry's refusal to become involved in gravel mining on her
property again is the overpowering problems of noise, dust,
dirt and disturbance.
The effect of this proposal upon Mrs. Terry would be sub-
stantial. Pit No. 2 is approximately 200 yards from 'ors.
' Terry's residence. Exhibit "D" pf the mine plan indicates
that the area of the proposed gravel mine will be stripped
of topsoil and over-burden. This, of course, will be done
with heavy equipment creating dust, noise and dirt within
very close proximity to Mrs. Terry's home. There are no
provisions to eliminate these nuisances, nor is it realistic
to think that any adequate provisions could be made. Once
the top soil and over-burden are stripped away, gravel
will be removed from the pit. The removal operation also
involves noise and dust from the hauling trucks in nearby
proximity. The site plan shows one hauling road south of
