This need usually
is met by groundwater encountered in the mining operation, for
which the Applicant has water rights and recycled retort water,
but in dry years as was 1977, this need is augmented by the purchase
of water from the Town of DeBeque or from other s with senior water
rights in the area.
Being a small development operation, there will not be a
measurable, material injury to any senior water rights in the
Logan Wash area.
WATER QUALITY
Surface Water Quality:
Six continuously flowing or intermittent streams which might
be affected by Occidental's Logan Wash in-situ operations were
sampled once each month starting in April, 1975, and continued
through May, 1976. Thereafter, a quarterly schedule has been
followed. Coors Spectro Chemical Laboratory in Denver, Colorado
was selected to analyze the water samples collected. Originally
66 constituents were sampled as required by the then current EPA
standards for water pollution. Subsequently, the number of
constituents sampled was reduced to 39. Results are on file
at Occidental's Grand Junction office, where they may be examined.
Sub-surface Water Quality:
Six alluvial wells are being monitored for level and quality.
