Normally, hydraulic
seeding and mulching is accomplished by a one-step method. A
two-step method will be used on these steep slopes. First,
water, fertilizer, and seed will be mixed in a tanker and sprayed
on the slopes. Secondly, Weyerhaeuser Silva-Fiber mulch will be
hydraulically applied at the rate of 2000 lbs per acre. These
wood cellulose fibers protect the seed and help maintain soil
stabilization while germination and seedling growth take place.
This protective mulch holds the seeds on the soil, while insulat-
ing against temperature extremes.
Since there is little if any topsoil in the canyon where
this dump is located no stripping and stockpiling will take place.
In order to reduce the hazard of downstream siltation due to
normal precipitation hazards, the native rocks and talus will
be used to create one or more small impoundment structures at the
toe of the dump designed to trap surface flowiand allow these
waters to infiltrate into the alluvium in thelbottomtof this ~Q
r1 :.~ ~ D
canyon. o-\ r ~'~~'~
Reclamation of the entire dump will be commenced within on /n -~y~
cJ~ c~et~Nc r' ~ ~ -S
~ L'/'ivt ~ ~'
