Groundwater samples were collected from the seven monitoring wells using dedicated Teflon
bailers. Unfiltered groundwater samples were placed directly into sample bottles. A duplicate
groundwater sample was collected at monitoring well MW-6. Groundwater samples were placed
into coolers chilled with ice and shipped via Federal Express to the Sevem Trent Laboratories,
Inc. (STL) facility located in Denver, CO under industry standazd chain-of-custody procedures.
A temperature blank was included in each cooler to verify that samples were maintained at an
appropriate temperature. All groundwater samples were submitted for analysis of metals (azsenic,
antimony, barium, beryllium, cadmium, chromium, lead, mercury, nickel, selenium, silver
thallium, aluminum, iron, manganese, magnesium potassium, sodium, and calcium), pH, specific
conductance, total dissolved solids (TDS), chloride, sulfate, alkalinity, cazbonate, fluoride,
ammonia, and nitrate. In addition, temperature, pH, and conductivity were measured in the field
for groundwater samples collected from each monitoring well.
2.3 Field Observations
Observations of groundwater color, odor, and particulate content were noted in the field notebook
for groundwater samples collected at each monitoring well. Groundwater samples collected at
monitoring wells MW-6, MW-8, MW-9, and MW-10 were cleaz and had no discernable odor.
The groundwater sample collected at monitoring well MW-7 was cleaz but a hydrogen sulfide-
type smell was noted. Groundwater samples collected at monitoring wells MW-11 and MW-12
were slightly cloudy and light brown in color, but had no discernable odor.
' Using the purging methods described in the previous section, monitoring wells MW-6, MW-7,
MW-11, and MW-12 were not purged dry and three casing volumes of groundwater were
removed. Monitoring wells MW-8, MW-9, and MW-10 were purged dry and were allowed to
'~ recover to pre-purging groundwater levels prior to sampling.
7:\Holcim\GW Monitoring Report\94332186.doc 2-2
