r
•
.~..
John Hardaway
-2-
April 12, 1995
It is the understanding of the Division that CC & VG will detoxify the water on Pond 4C
by applying hydrogen peroxide at a rate suggested by Degussa and the treated water
quality data which was provided was based on the recommended application rate.
Based on CDPHE recommendations and the Division's review, the request is approved
with the following conditions:
Pond 4C water will be applied only 48 hours after the last rain event or
when visible dust is observed during routine traffic on the roads.
2. CC & VG Mining Company will sample the water for all the applicable
parameters at the NPDES discharge point in addition to the monthly
sampling after each 10 year - 24 hour event (2.2 inches).
3. CC & VG will commit that no direct discharge of the water from Pond 4C
will reach the waters of the United States.
4. CC & VG will provide to the Division a detailed rate of application and
location of where this water is being applied on a monthly basis.
If you agree with the above conditions, please notify the Division in writing before
application of water from Pond 4C takes place.
Sincerely,
Berhan Keffelew
Environmental Protection Specialist
cc: Pat Nelson, Water Quality Control Division
M:\OSSammWond9C.bk
