Revegetation of disturbed areas remains the most efficient and economical Best Management Practice
(BMP) for reducing sediment transport from large areas. Roots hold soils in place and surface growth
filters sediment and reduces runoff velocities causing deposition of suspended soil particles.
Reclamation and vegetating disturbed areas will be an ongoing process to reduce soil erosion at the site.
Revegetated areas will be mulched following seeding to prevent erosion prior to the establishment of the
plants.
Mowing will provide the predominant form of weed control and appropriate chemicals will only be used
to control particularly hardy varieties of weeds. Any weed killers used must be compatible with use near
waterways. For example, RoundUp should not be used near running water.
4.4 Inspection and Maintenance
Preventative inspections for the vehicles located on site will occur on a daily basis. All vehicles will be
checked for signs of leaks or other potential problems. Any problems identified will be corrected
immediately. Monthly monitoring inspections of the vehicles will be conducted and documented on the
attached forms. Preventative maintenance for all the equipment will be conducted on a regular basis and
documented on the same forms.
Preventative inspections for the crushing and screening equipment will be conducted on a monthly
basis. Any information regarding maintenance needed or performed will be noted on the attached forms.
Containment berms surrounding the fuel tank will be inspected monthly. Any problems with the
integrity of the berms will be noted and repaired promptly.
The site will be inspected to insure that all the structural and non-structural BMPs are functioning well
and any off-site discharges have the best water quality attainable from good management practices.
Little discharge, if any, is expected from this site. The vegetated areas and ponds will mitigate any
surface flows. Haul roads will be maintained in good condition.
A comprehensive inspection of the site must be conducted no less than twice a year, spring and fall. An
inspection form is included which may be copied as needed. Note any additional water quality
protection procedures implemented, directly on the report or blueline drawing for later incorporation to
the SWMP. If unforeseen erosion occurs, the SWMP should be revised as necessary to improve
discharged stormwater quality.
The inspection records and a copy of this Stormwater Management Plan will be available at the site for
inspections by Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment personnel. The annual SWMP
report will contain a summary description of the two comprehensive inspection reports, and details of
any revisions, as outlined in the permit requirements. Copies of the annual report shall be maintained
for at least three years.
Based on the results of the comprehensive inspections, any pollution prevention measures identified in
the plan shall be revised as appropriate within two weeks of the inspection. These revisions shall
provide for implementation of any changes to the plan in a timely manner, but in no case more than 90
days after the inspection.
4
