PART II. SPECIFIC PERMIT CONDITIONS
A. WELL CONSTRUCTION REQUIREMENTS
The well completion details presented here are for
representative purposes. Alternative well configurations may be
developed and implemented during the life of this Permit. Other
well designs and configurations are allowable under this Permit,
provided the wells are cased and cemented to prevent the
migration of fluids into or between USDWs pursuant to 40 CFR §
146.32. and approval is received from the Director prior to well
construction.
1. Casino and Cementing. The construction details
submitted with the application are hereby incorporated
into this Permit as Appendix A which graphically
displays the details of the solution mining well(s)
under consideration. The Permittee intends to
construct (new drill) the solution mining well(s) in
the following manner:
(a) Surface Casing (20 to 30 inch). A surface hole
will be rotary drilled to a range of 40 to 120
feet, however, the casing will extend through the
alluvial aquifer, if present. The surface casing
will be set at the total depth of the surface hole
and cemented with sufficient quantity of Type II
Portland (or equivalent type) cement to assure
return of the cement slurry at the surface.
(b) Long String Casing. Rotary drilling and/or coring
will then occur through the surface casing to the
total depth, which will be approximately 800 feet
below the Dissolution Surface. One or more
intermediate casings shall be set at least 150
feet below the Dissolution Surface to ground
level. The intermediate casing shall be cemented
in place with heat resistant cement and by use of
conventional cementing or a tremmie line: one of
the most important factors in isolating a well is
obtaining a good cement bond around the casing.
The tremmie line method allows the positive.
placement of the cement and also allows the
placement of different strength cements (or cement
mixes).
