(d) Inlet and discharge temperatures and pressures
shall be monitored continuously and recorded on
ten (10) minute intervals in the injection fluid
and production fluid flow lines at locations close
to the flow meters and density meters. These data
measurements shall be used both for process
control and for correlation with the fluid density
measurements.
(e) Subsequent to initial MIT: additional MITs shall
be conducted as necessary and in no case less
frequently than once every five (5) years as
required in 40 CFR § 196.33 (b) for Class III
wells during the life of the solution mining
wells. If the fluid and pressure data suggest
that there may be possible fluid movement, either
out of the solution mining cavity or behind the
outermost casing, the well must be shut-in and EPA
notified immediately following the procedures set
forth in Part III (E)(10)(C) of this Permit. At a
minimum, an MIT shall be conducted within 48
hours. This may include the requirement to run a
temperature survey or other designated test.
Results of anv MIT(s) shall be submitted in the
first quarterly monitoring report after the MIT
has been conducted and shall include the following
information:
• date, time, and interval of each MIT
measurement;
• individual(s) who performed the MIT
measurements;
• dates of calibration of the MIT equipment;
• techniques and equipment used to collect MIT
measurements; and results of the temperature
log, noise log, tracer survey or other
equivalent MIT log designed to monitor fluid
movement behind pipe.
(f) Cavity development shall be monitored to estimate
cavity size. Because the leached solution cavity
will be a matrix of oil shale rather than a void,
size and shape must be determined by indirect
methods and standard logging methods used in
mining operations will not be accurate.
