j .
~~:m'~~~
covaovanoM
•
Since it has been shown that the possibility of ground-
water discharge exists, it is recommended that an additional,
more intensive study be performed on the Yampa. This study should
again be performed during low flow, steady-state conditions.
However, it should focus only on the 2.2 mile reach between
Station 2A and 5 where the surface/ground-water exchanges were
identified. The additional aspects of this study should include
the following:
•~ a rigorous time of travel dye study
~ between Stations 2A and. 5,
3
. temporary recording stream gages to be in-
~ stalled at both Stations 2A and S to define
better any small changes in channel storage,
1
• at least four full days of measurements to
a help corroborate the result,
• not less than six measureme-t stations over
the 2.2 miles to minimize long stretches
with no data,
i
• an increased number of sections at each mea-
~ surement station to reduce the effect of
~ random errors in the measurement process, and
• aerial reconnaissance and photography of the
river to determine both the size of vegetated
riparian areas and average water surface width.

5-2
