i •
The fine refuse (-14 mesh particles) pipeline pressure loss
data will be measured at the HNM wash plant using the existing
thickener underflow pump and a special 4 in. ID, 100 to 200 ft
pipeline which will be constructed for the purpose of obtaining
this data. If the existing 4 in. ID fine refuse slurry pipeline,
which presently transports thickener underflow underground, can
be accessed over a known length with little or no bends, con-
struction of this special pipeline may be eliminated. The pipe-
line pressure loss data will be measured over the normal concen-
tration and flow range of the fine refuse thickener underflow.
Fine Refuse Dewatering Tests
Pilot scale solid bowl centrifuge dewatering/clarifying tests
will be conducted on the thickener underflow during the same test
period as the fine refuse pipeline pressure loss tests. These
tests will determine the dewatered solids moisture level, the
required polymer dosage for centrate clarity, the effluent percent
solids which will be obtained without polymer and the pilot scale
centrifuge capacity which will be used to size the full scale
unit(s). This centrifuge will be supplied by either Bird Machine
Company or KHD Humbolt Wedag AG.
• All tests described in this task will be conducted over a
period of 1 to 2 weeks. This should ensure representative data
over a wide range of the wash plant refuse output.
Detailed Design
In this task the detailed design and component selection of
the complete underground disposal system will be determined. The
detailed design will be divided into the following six subtasks:
a. Waste preparation and injection into the slurry pipeline
b. Pipeline selection
c. Dewatering station design and equipment selection
d. Pneumatic feeder design and equipment selection
e. System control
f. System monitoring and instrumentation.
~'•
