• 2.05.4
Early in 1988 the operator advertised in the local paper for the
salvage rights for two metal buildings, two fuel tanks and other
items. Six responses were received. The high bidder paid $4,400 for
the salvage rights. By mid 1988 the salvage contractor had removed
the buildings, fuel tanks and other miscellaneous items from the
site. The two metal buildings involved were the repair shop and
storage building.
Area 1 - Underground Development Waste Disposal Site
All of the underground development waste in this area was covered
with four (4) feet of cover material. The cover material was
obtained from the old strip pit spoil pile, (borrow area A drawing
2.05.4(2)(c)-1). The spoil pile was located west of the underground
development waste pile. Cover material was also obtained from an
existing small stockpile located in the northeast section of the
pile. This small stockpile may have been mistakenly called a topsoil
pile, but it was not. This stockpile was constructed when the
underground development waste disposal area was expanded to the west
towards the existing spoil pile. A small quantity of spoil was
excavated to provide room for development waste. This spoil formed
the stockpile on the top of the disposal area.
A portion of the waste pile had previously been covered with 9-inches
of spoil material and seeded. The top 6-inches of this material was
excavated, stockpiled and later placed as top cover material. This
material was identified as topsoil during the reclamation project but
it was actually spoil material. Adequate material to complete the
4-foot cover requirement was placed over the area of the pile that
previously had the 9-inch spoil cover. The lower collection ditches
and terrace ditches were constructed concurrently with the
reclamation of the underground development waste disposal area.
Area 2 - Coal Yard
Work performed in this area included portal backfill, grading the
coal yard and grading for the major drainage channel. Both portals
were completely backfilled up to their existing seals. The outslope
of the coal yard was graded back to the north to recontour the yard
area. The outslope is shown as borrow area B on drawing
2.05.4(2)(c)-1).
An irrigation return flow was piped through the coal yard in a 10-
inch diameter pipe. This flow is now handled by the major drainage
channel. A temporary pipeline was installed to handle the irrigation
return flow during the project.
Area 2 (cont.) - Portal Area "E" seam, shop area, storage area
This area was recontoured and shaped for the major drainage channel
construction. Roads in the area were obliterated. The fill slopes

127 (Rev. 3-29-96)
