Grand Mesa Coal Company uses the covered area
underneath the tipple for storage. The tipple will be demolished
in the near future. Plans for removel will be to knock it down,
cleaning the area and revegetation. Refer to the Reclamation
Plan, Section 2.05.4, for specific details. Refer to the Affected
Land Map, 2.04.3(2)(a)-2, for the location of the tipple.
(vi ) Service Area.
Grand Mesa Coal Company's service area consists of the #1 shaft,
a 3000 gallon water tank, a water hole, a power hole, and a sub-
• station.
(A) Al Shaft
Grand Mesa Coal Company's shaft is eight foot in diameter and is
used as the main return for the mine. Excavation for the start of the
shaft in the spring of 19 ?9, encountered a sandstone ledge within
two inches of the surface, therefore no segregation of soil was
possible. The earth drill being used to drill the hole drilled a
four foot pilot hole down 130 feet to the coal seam. The bottom of
the shaft was sealed in the fall of 1979 at 100 feet. An incline
was driven in October of 1979 from the mine at a 36 degree slope up
to the BS to 96 foot interval on the shaft. The shaft was lined
down to 88 feet with 3/8 inch steel plate with concrete poured
behind it. A fan housing was built with the three extra eight
foot sections of steel liner not used in the shaft. A six foot low
pressure fan is facing south over the property to minimize noise to
the surrounding area. A dirt berm was pushed up against the fan
structure on the north, east and west shies to aid in minimizing
noise. Drawing 2.05.3(3)(b)(vi)(A)-1 is a diagram of the existing
fan with the dirt berm indicated. A proposed sound hlocti. wall is
also shown.
90
