2.05.4(2)(e)(vi)
Noxious Weed Control Plan
This weed control plan is concerned with the control of all
varieties of thistle, Whitetop and Russian Knapweed on the mine
site. The plan is developed with the assistance of the CSU
extension service.
Weed control will be accomplished by spraying individual noxious
weeds and patches of noxious weeds with an industrial herbicide.
Spraying will be done with a backpack or other portable spray
system.
The CSU Extension Service (Wayne Cooley 249-3935) recommends
Curtail for use to control all types of thistle and Russian
Knapweed. Curtail is to be mixed at the rate of 2 ounces per
gallon and the noxious weeds should be sprayed to wet. Russian
Knapweed should be sprayed at bud or early flower and again in the
late fall after September 15th. A two to three year spraying
program should control Russian Knapweed.
• Since thistles are not a big problem on the site, they will be
treated at the same time as the Russian Knapweed.
Amine 2,4-D is recommended for use to control Whitetop. Whitetop
should be sprayed 3 times per year for two to three years. Spaying
should be performed in April or May when the Whitetop is in bud or
early flower. Spraying should again be performed in the summer and
late fall. Amine 2,4-D should be mixed at the rate of 2 ounces per
gallon and the noxious weeds should be sprayed to wet.
Roundup may also be used to control Whitetop in areas that lack
other valuable vegetation. Roundup is to be mixed at the rate of
2.5 ounces per gallon.
Banvel may also be used to control noxious weeds. Banvel will be
applied at the rate of three quarts per treated acre, approximately
2.2 oz/gallon. A mixture of Banvel 720 and Amine 2,4-D may also be
used. The herbicides will be mixed 1.1 oz/gallon Banvel with 1.0
oz/gallon Amine.
• New 08-09-95 134a
