E. FOOTNOTES -APPLICABLE TO PRECEDING PAGES

PARTI
Page 15
Permit No. COG-500000
g/ Whm the measurement frequency indicated is quarterly, the eaaWles aball be collected during March, June, September
and December, if a continual discharge occurs. If the discharge is intermittent, then samples shall be collected during
' the period that discharge occurs. If the permittee, using the approved analytical methods. monitors nay parameter
more frequently than required by this permit, then the results of such monitoring shall be included in the calculation
and reporting of the values required is the Discharge Monitoring Report Form or other forms as required by the
Division. Such increased frequency shall also be indicated.
h/ Definitions of Sample Type
1. A 'composite' sample, for monitoring requirements, is a minimum of four (4) grab samples collected at equally
spaced two (2) hour intervals and proportioned according to flow.
2. A "grab" sample, for monitoring requirements, is a single 'dip and take' sample.
3. An "insfaataneous" ~~m~Rment, for monitoring requirements, is a single reading, observation, or
measurement performed on site.
4. A 'continuous' measurement, for flow monitoring requirements, is a +~+Pam~rPmmt obtained from an automatic
recording device which continually measures flow.
5. A "visual' observation, for oil and grease monitoring requirements, is observing the discharge to check for the
preamce of a visible sham or floating oil.
6. An "in-situ' measurement, for monitoring requirements, is defined u a single reading, observation or
nwna„mment taken in the field at the point of discharge.
7. A "Z4 hour composite' sample is a combination of at least eight (B) sample aliquots of at least 100 milliliters,
collected at equally spaced intervals during the operating hours of a facility over atwenty-four (24) hour period.
For volatile pollutants, aliquots must be combinod in the laboratory immediately before analysis. The composite
must be flow proportional; either the time interval between each aliquot or the volume of each aliquot must be
proportional to either the wastewater or effluent flow at the time of sampling or the total wastewater or effluent
flow since the collection of the previous aliquot. Aliquots may be collected mmually or automatically.
i/ In the event en oil sham or floating oil is observed, a grab e~ample shall be collected, amlyzed, and reported on the
appropriate DMR or amual report. In addition, corrective cation shall be taken immediately to mitigate the discharge
of oil end grea9e. A description of the corrective action taken should be included with the DMR or amual report.
j/ Where, based on a minimum of 5 samples, the permittx demonstrates to the satisfaction of the Water Quality Control
Division that the level of total dissolved solids (TDS) in the effluent can be calculated based upon the level of electrical
conductivity, the permittee may measure and report TDS in terms of electrical conductivity. ,
F. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
Reoressentative Sampling
Samples and +~+P~p~Rments taken ae requirod herein shall be repreaeafative of the volume and nature of the monitored
discharge. All samples shall be taken at the monitoring points specified in this permit end, unless otherwise specified,
before the effluent joins or is diluted by any other wastestream, body of water, or substance. Monitoring points shall
not be chmged without notification to and approval by the Division.
