• Given the noted considerations limiting alternative land uses in the mine area,
and prevailing land use patterns for adjacent pavate and Federal lands,
restoration of disturbed azeas to the pre-muting land uses of rangeland and
wildlife habitat appeazs to be the most reasonable and practical alternative at
this time.
Loadout Area. Existing land uses in the loadout azea include mining-related
storage and loadout operations, and undeveloped rangeland. Possible
alternative land uses aze the same as previously noted for the mine azea.
Most of the constraints previously noted as limiting implementation of
alternative land uses for the mine area aze also applicable to the loadout azea.
There is limited residential development east of the loadout azea. However,
expansion of residential use into the loadout azea is unlikely due to proximity
to the AT&SF railroad. Commercial/Industrial development is a possibility,
espeaally given access to the railroad.
• Conversion to higher agricultural uses is possible as evidenced by similaz
lands in the general azea. However, water rights in this azea aze costly and
difficult to obtain, soil suitability is limited, and the loadout azea is so small
and broken-up that it offers little potential for cost-effective agricultural
utilization.
Given the noted limitations on alternative uses, restoration of the loadout
azea to a land use of undeveloped rangeland appeazs to be the most practical
alternative at [his time.
•
Minor Revision i`'II2-4] 2.04.3-7 Revised December 200]
