• azeas vanes significantly with slope and aspect, ranging from S00 - 1,000
pounds per acre. Carrying capacities aze generally low to moderate, ranging
from 7.25 to 5.0 acres per animal-unit-month (AUM).
Alternative Land Uses
Generally, existing land uses of mining, undeveloped rangeland, and wildlife
habitat appeaz to be the most practical and beneficial uses for mine and
loadout azeas, although the potential exists for light industrial or residential
development. Potential alternative uses aze constrained by the speafic
considerations noted in the preceding section.
Mine Area. Existing land uses in the mine azea include mining, undeveloped
rangeland, and wildlife habitat. Possible alternative land uses include
commercial/industrial/residential development or enhancement to higher
agricultural use. The feasibility of implementing any of the noted potential
land use alternatives is limited b}' site ph}'sica] conditions and regional socio-
• economic factors. Prinapal constraints on implementation of alternative uses
include the following,
o Arid climate which limits vegetative growth
o Site topography with sloping terrain broken by numerous small
drainages
o Availability of water resources and economic limitations on available
water rights
o Poorly developed soils with fair to moderate suitability
o Ilmited development and economic growth
o Distance from major population centers
o Basic transportation system
The potential for light industrial or residential development has increased as
the regional economy and transportation system have improved. Distance
from developed areas, location adjacent to the mountains, and proximity to
• good roads makes this azea attracnve for potential Gght industrial and
residenda] development. Higher agricultural utilization is limited by lack of
available water, site configuration, and soil limitations.
Ivlinor Revision b'IIt-41 204.3-G Revised December 2007
