Soils and vegetation in the loadout area are similar to
surrounding lowland areas, with poor to moderate sandy loam soils
supporting a vegetation community dominated by sagebrush and native
grasses.
Land Use Information
Other than historical mining operations, these has been no intensive use
of lands within either the mine or loadout areas. Pre-mining land uses
in both areas have been limited to undeveloped rangeland and wildlife
habitat. These are also the dominant uses on surrounding undisturbed
lands.
Land use information has been obtained primarily from historical
documentation of past mining activities and the Fremont County Department
of Planning and Zoning. The Mine and Loadout Area Land Use Map (Map 4)
• is based upon information obtained from the Fremont County Planning
Director including zoning information from both current and historical
zoning maps. Where appropriate, map information has been expanded to
reflect more detailed site specific land use information in the mine,
loadout, and adjacent areas. Both mine and loadout areas are currently
zoned for agricultural use, with mining activities addressed under the
provisions of applicable conditional use permits.
Mine Area
Prior to any mine development, lands in the mine and adjacent areas were
utilized as undeveloped rangeland for livestock grazing and as wildlife
habitat.
