Wadsworth Blvd. <br />Littleton, CO 80128-6901 <br />Re: Gardels Pit, Corps Fife No. 200280153 <br />Dear Mr. McKee: <br />environmental Supporl lan <br />• Transporfalion <br />• Land ~7evelapment <br />• Mining <br />• Industry <br />I am writing to request an approved jurisdictional determination for a wetland in the east <br />pit area at the proposed Gardels Pit east of Loveland, Colorado. <br />Project Location <br />The proposed Gazdels gravel pit is located in portions of the SW 'C< of the NE'/< Sec 19, <br />the SE '/. of the N W '/. Sec 19, and the NE '/< of the S W '/< of Sec 19 of TSN, R68W, <br />Lorimer County. This can be found on the Loveland U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) <br />7.5' Quadrangle. UTM coordinates at the -ow water crossing are 49,369 E and 4,470,523 <br />- .. N. Mean elevation in the project area is 4,900 ft (1,493.5 m). <br />The attached Figure 1 is a vicinity map of the proposed permit area boundary located <br />southeast of the City of Loveland. The proposed permit azea parallels the Big Thompson <br />River, which is located directly south of the project azea. Interstate 25 is located 3.3 mi <br />to the east. County Road 11H is located to the west and East ls` Street is located to the <br />north. A power substation is located directly north in the approximate center of the <br />project azea. The Farmers Irrigation Canal is located northwest of the substation. Access <br />to the project location is via the driveway/access road to the substation from East 1S` <br />Stteet to the north. <br />Project History <br />The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers originally authorized the disturbance of 0.04 acres of <br />wetlands by a low water crossing under Nationwide Permit 14 on March 28, 2002. This <br />permit was reauthorized on August 24, 2004. This request for an approved jurisdictional <br />determination is in regard to additional wetlands that have apparently become established <br />since the original permit request. <br />Project Brief and Site Description <br />Coulson Excavating Company, Inc. plans to mine gravel in two parcels totaling about 26 <br />acres.
