Surface runoff <br />is medium. <br />1\Iosl of the acreage is cultivated. Wheat and' sorghum <br />arc the main crops. Land IeveIing is necessary for uni- <br />form application of orator. (Capability writ VIIs-2, nonirrigated; Gravel <br />Breaks range site) <br />Harbord Series <br />The I-Iarbord series consists of deep, nearly level to <br />gently sloping, light-colored loams on uplands. <br />In a typical profile the surface layer, about 3 inches <br />thick, is Urown, very strongly calcareous loam. The suU- <br />soil is Urown, noncnlcareous silty clay loam about 13 <br />inches thick that rests nn nn older buried soil about 13 <br />inches thick. Tho Uuried soil is clay loam and contains <br />many white lime strcalcs and mottles. Below a depth of <br />about 20 inches is pink, very strongly calcareous clay <br />]oa nl. <br />TTal•Uord soils ,•tra naturally well dr•ainod. Depta to the Uuried soil <br />ranges from 10 CO 20 inches. <br />Xarboz•d leant, 0 to 2 percent slopes (HaA1•-This soil <br />occurs throughout the county. <br />Included in mapping wore small areas of Baca and <br />Campo clay loam; small areas of Potter gravelly loam <br />in the w~stent half of the county; and, near Walsh, <br />areas of Wiley loam. <br />This soil absorbs water well. Suzfaco runoff is slow, and <br />available water capacity is high. Soil blowing is the <br />major hazard. <br />About 70 percent of the acreahe is cultivated. Wheat <br />and sorghum are the main crops. P'ez•tilizing, use of <br />crop residue, and ~vator management are necessaryy to <br />improve production.
