The channel in this part of the creek was about 0.5 feet deep
and not well defined. Grasses and sedges grew along both banks and an abundant
growth of sedges was present in the creek bed. The substrate was primazily organic
detritus with some sand and clay. Flow velocity was slow at this site.
Site FF-1
This station was located on the FF Creek diversion ditch alongside a
gravel road leading to the Northern No. 1 (FF-Seam) Mine bench azea. The stream
• channel at this site was about 1.5 feet in depth. The channel was recently
constructed and consists of dirt and clay. No vegetation grew neaz the banks or in
the creek itself. Flow velocity was moderate at this site.
Site FF-2
This station was located above the Northern No. 1 (FF-Seam) Mine bench
azea in the middle of a wet sub-irrigated meadow. The creek in this azea was a
series of small, shallow pools with water flowing between the pools. There was
abundant vegetation growing in and adjacent to the creek. The substrate was
entirely organic detritus.
2.5.2 Sampling Methods
Four macroinvertebrate samples were taken at each sampling site during
the May, 1979 sampling period. Samples were taken at this time using a circular

L-10
