Trap lines were established on 10 and 11 August and maintained
• for three nights. The total number of trap nights attained in each
habitat was 240 (20 stations/line X 2 traps/station x 2 lines/habitat
X 3 nights). Each trap line was checked once a day.
All captured animals were identified to species, aged, and sexed.
The physical condition of captured animals was noted. To identify
recaptures, individuals were toe-clipped prior to release. To posi-
tively identify shrews (SOrex spp.), captured individuals were col-
lected, frozen, and identified in the laboratory.
OTHER MILDLIFE GROUPS
Observers maintained a species list of all animals encountered
during fieldwork. Additional time was allocated to general reconnais-
sauce for wildlife groups not specifically covered during the above
• surveys. Other animal groups include bats, mammalian predators,
furbearers, lagomorphs, amphibians, and reptiles. There is no habitat
suitable for fish on the Yoast area.
SPECIES OF HIGH FEDERAL AND STATE INTEREST
The potential and actual occurrence of threatened and endangered
species, and other species of high Federal and State interest, in the
project area were identified through literature review and consulta-
tion with agency personnel. Throughout field surveys, biologists
watched for threatened and endangered species and habitats that could
support them.
•
7
