RESULTS AND DISCUSSION
Appendix 11-I lists all bird, mammal, reptile, and amphibian •
species Chet potentially occur in the Yoast Area, and those which were
observed duing baseline studies. Wildlife habitats are described
below. Date on big game, game birds, raptors, breeding birds, small
mammals, other mammals, and species of State and Federal interest
follow.
HABITAT DESCRIPTIONS
Vegetation communities on the proposed Yoast Mine permit area and
haul road corridor were mapped during studies completed in 1990 and
1992 (ESCO 1993). Seven major vegetation types were identified on the
Yoast area: mountain brush, steep mountain brush, aspen, sagebrush,
western wheatgrass/alkali sagebrush, mesic drainage, and improved
pasture - subirrigated. Four lesser types also occurred in the area, •
primarily along the haul road corridor: alkali meadow, alkali sage-
brush/greasewood, improved pasture - upland, and Conservation Reserve
Program (CRP) lands (ESCO 1993). Vegetation maps are presented as
Exhibit 10-1 (Pre-Mine Vegetation and Sampling Locations) in Tab - 10
of this Permit Application.
In 1993, PRES field checked the vegetation maps and found that
they accurately depicted wildlife habitats in the area. Where possi-
ble, the same nomenclature used to identify vegetation types was used
to describe habitets. However, some habitats were given names other
than those used during vegetation typing. Also, in a few instances
two or more vegetation types were considered to be a single habitat.
Habitats recognized during baseline studies and their corresponding
•
8
