Mr. Gilbert F. Rindahl - 2 - ay 1, 1985
reclamation plan show an extraction pond stra dling the
river channel. This activity is not consista t with the
200' setback described in your application.
An excavation located in the channel will act as a
sediment trap, thus possibly causing accelera ed stream
channel erosion downstream. It is further po sible that
excavation at the stated location may cause u desirable
rerouting of the channel, thus creating unexp cted
damage to the County Road. Additionally, the pond area
will fill with sediment in a relatively short period of
time, thus defeating the stated purpose of fl od control.
Please provide details as to how the operator will
guarantee that thi~~s//pit area will have no det imental
hydrologic or georAaTphologic impacts to upstre m and
downstream locations. Please, also provide a pre-mining
and post-mining cross-section for the locatiol discussed
above.
The Division is also requesting verification hat
operations within the perennial channel of th Big
Thompson River do not require a 404 dredge/fi 1 permit.
3. The application indicates the development of ~ ponds as
a result of mining and the map shows 5. Plea e clarify.
4. Please verify that grading will occur to crea~e 3H:V
slopes from 10 feet below the projected low w ter level
and 5 feet above the projected high water lev 1.
Please forward the publication and notification requirements at your earliest
convenience. Thank you for you continued cooperation.
Sincerely
Da Berry
Reclamation, cialist
DB/ddt
0005E
