3.9.5 TOPSOIL STOCKPILE
3-32
• No topsoil was salvaged from the existing disturbances. During the life of the mine minor
amounts of soil sloughed off of the haul road slopes. This soil has been stored in the topsoil
stockpile area; as well as, on the mine bench. This material is not topsoil but Grand Valley was
permitted to store the material in the topsoil stockpile area because analysis indicated it was
suitable for reconstructive material.
Since no actual topsoil was salvaged, this material is the same as the material that will be
exposed when the road and mine site area recontoured. The material exposed at the surface of
the mine disturbances has proven the ability to support vegetative growth. Grand Valley will use
the material that is stored in the topsoil stockpile on the mine site area. Calculations shown on
Table 3.9-2 indicate that there are approximately 1,540 cubic yards of topsoil in the pile. This
will be trucked to the mine site where it will be spread by the dozer to approximately on foot
thick. The material will also be used as top dressing in areas where excessive rock is exposed
on the surface after recontouring.

C~
MU Volume 1 12 - 18 - 96
