Section 815.15 (i) Continued.
• (i) Provide additional environmental quality data;
(2) Reduce or control the on- and off-site effects of the exploration
activities; or
(3) Facilitate future surface mining and reclamation operations by the
person conducting the exploration, under an approved permit.
With the exception of piezometers to be installed in some of the
drill holes for ground water quality and quantity monitoring, all
equipment related to the exploration program will be removed from
the exploration area when they are no longer needed for explora-
tion.
(j) Coal exploration shall be conducted in a manner which minimizes
disturbance of the prevailing hydrologic balance, and shall include
• sediment control measures such as those listed in 30 CFR 816.45 or sedi-
mentation ponds which comply with 30 CFR 816.46. The regulatory author-
ity may specify additional measures which shall be adopted by the person
engaged in coal exploration.
During the exploration program minimization of surface disturbance
and prompt reclamation practices will be utilized to eliminate
sedimentation problems and any disturbance of the prevailing
hydrologic balance. Water bars and ditches will be built wherever
needed. Also, water from drilling operations will be contained on
the drill site and allowed to evaporate, thus eliminating any off-
site disturbance.
•
(k) Toxic- or acid-forming materials shall be handled and disposed of
in accordance with 30 CFR 816.48 and 816.103. If specified by the regu-
latory authority, additional measures shall be adopted by the person
engaged in coal exploration.
816-9
