lined pond, the lined pond and spillway appurtenances, and the potential receiving streams
including the unnamed drainage downstream from the pond and Roan Creek. Existing
monitoring equipment and instrumentation within the system was also inspected as part of this
reconnaissance.
Oxy is planning to combine the dischazges from Outfa11001, Outfa11002 and the pipeline
discharge into 1 combined permitted outfall. This would allow the facility to determine the
quality of the water which would eventually be discharged to Roan Creek. The water from the
combined discharges would enter the evaporation pond and would not be dischazged without
prior state approval.
To meet the objectives of this plan, data aze required for the mine discharge and receiving
surface waters. This plan includes both flow and water quality data to document the volume
and quality of water expected in the process and receiving waters. The following monitoring
locations were identified to meet the objectives of this plan:
• Pipeline dischazge at outfall to pond, Station P-1
• Lined pond at spillway, Station POND-1
• Unnamed drainage at highway near mouth, Station UN-1
• Roan Creek above Logan Wash below Conn Creek, Station RC-1
• Roan Creek near mouth at the town of Debeque, Colorado, Station RC-2.
Monitoring locations aze shown on Figures 2 and 3, Logan Wash Mine Surface Water
Monitoring Locations, maps 1 and 2.
A flow recorder exists on the buried pipeline approximately 150 feet upstream from the pond.
This recorder is in operable condition and should be used for continuous flow measurement
which represents inflow to the pond. Water quality samples should be collected from this
manhole to represent water quality entering the pond.
The pond water should be sampled to determine water quality changes between the influent
stream and the pond spillway or potential outfall location. The potential exists for significant
changes in pond water quality depending on residence times.
The unnamed tributary downstream from the pond which would receive potential discharges
from the pond is ephemeral. There was no flow in this tributary at the highway (above Roan
7
