<br />• R6-(;l~{Vitt Lawn, 3 to 14 Percent Slopes <br />fhe {Vitt series is a menber of the fine-silty, Waxed mesic <br />i'amily of Ustollic Haplargids. Soils of this series are deep, well <br />drained, and medium-textured to moderately tine-textured. These soils <br />have forn~ed in loess with some glacial cobbles. They occupy gently <br />sloping to sloping uplands and mesa tops. The average annual <br />precipitation is 14 to 17 inches. The average annual air tanperatures <br />are 45 to 50 degrees. The average frost free season is 110 to 130 days. <br />Typically, the surface layer is a dark brown loam about 7 <br />inches thick. 'f he upper part of the subsoil is a reddish brown clay <br />loam about 1'l inches thick. 'fhe middle part of the subsoil. is a reddish <br />brawn learn about lE; inches thtck. 'fhe subst[•atum is a yellowish red <br />• loam that extends to ci0 inches or rrpre. <br />Included in this soil mapping writ are about LO percent Pulpit <br />loans, and small areas of Lazear stony loam and Harlan C;obbly loam. <br />Permeability is nrrderately slow. Effective rooting depth is more than <br />40 incl[ea. kunoff is moderate and the erosion hazard is moderate. <br />Available water capacity is high. Twenty peroent consists of about 15 <br />percent of Pulpit loam, and small areas of soils that gave a control <br />sc~ tion that has nnre clay than is typical of the Lazear series. <br />- 3 - <br />• <br />
