<br />of this oak donur~ated conn;unity is composed primarily of Kenttnky Blue <br />• Grass (Poa ratensis) and Elk Sedge (Carex e eri). Chokecherry (Prurrus <br />virginiana) and Snowberry (Symporicapos oreophilus) is also quite comron <br />as an understory shrub in this community. Armwleaf balsanu•oot <br />(Balsamorhiza sagittata) , farrow (Ai~hillea lanulosa) , and Oregon Grape <br />(Berberis reLns) occur occasionally in these oak dominated stands. <br />Scattered individuals of Pinyon Pine, either of the Junipers <br />Puuderosa Pine, and Lrouglas-Fii•, do occur with the oak. Along the ridge <br />tops above the oak hillsides, shrui~s such as 6lountain Mahogany <br />(Cexcocarpus crontanus), Fendlerbush (Fendlera rupicola), and scattered <br />individuals of Serviceberry (Arnelanchier sp.) occur ndxed with the oak. <br />As•izona F•es•ue (Festuca ar•izonica) b~exr~es a comron uuderstory species <br />in these ridge top stu•ub dominated corrmurrities. <br />. tin the upland flats above tl~e mine site, ttre oak occurs irore <br />in clumps interspersed with openings doninated by grasses such as <br />Western Ivheatgrass (Agropyron smithii), 6lountain Pduhly (Ioluhlenbergia <br />~rontana), Needle and 'thread (Stipa coaata), and Kentucky Bluegrass (iba <br />alar tecisis) and shrubs such as Big Sage (Arterusia tridentata) and <br />Snottberry. Tl~e oak~lomiinate~ci conn,unity was studied in detail by CLN,1 for <br />A.
