II. BACIiFILL CO:~IPONEVTS
3.OI General
The SCB ^Zix design is composed of the following materials:
^ site water.
^ coarse alluvium.
^ overburden,
^ bedrock,
^ dry bentonite powder,
^ bentonite slurry, and
^ pordand cement.
The source and pertinent characteristics of these components are described in the following
sections.
2.0~ Specific Description of Each Component
A. Site Water
The water used to create all benumi[e slurries was obtained from the 25`" Avenue
gravel pit ponds. This water is non-potable. It is anticipated that this water wilt be
used in all slurrv and backfill mixes for the barrier wall Table I swnmarizes the
results of laboratory tests conducted on a sample of the pond water.
B. Coarse Alluvium
Coarse alluvium used in the backfill mix consisted of a composite of samples
collected from test pit locations Tp-13 and TP-14, located along the alignment of the
barrier wall These samples appear to be representative of the coarse alluvium
encountered in the test borings along the slurry wall aligmnen[ and observed at the
35'"Avenue gravel pit. The coarse alluvium used in the design backtill mix was
screened for materiel passing [he 3i"8-inch sieve to be able ro perform labnratory
testing on the backfill mixes. Table [I summarizes the results of labontorv tests
conducted on this sample.
C. Overburden
Borrow clay used in the backfill mi.e design was a composite of overburden samples
collecred from TP-13. TP-1~. TP-l7, and Tp-19. Table 111 summarizes the results of
lahi>rauxy tests conducted nn this sample.
D. Bedrock
Bedrock used in the backtill mis design was a composite of cote samples obtained
from 1(A-11, Hr\-20. Hr1-ZG. and Hr~-3 t. The lxdroek is representative of tha
anticipated escacated bedrn<k.
<< VRD)f-(T~C7h+n (hac!uti eYinc ~-b.~,! Ge.rn~ ual i(xti sta. i ~::. an+.lcv..iY tllY itFap }itP d~w .)
