UNITED COMPANIES OF MESA COUNTY, INC.
M-94-005 COLONA GRAVEL PIT, MONTROSE COUNTY
Re: Resolution of Objection Per Prehearing Conference
As determined by the Prehearing Conference, the matter that is at issue is the
buffering of the Becker property, which is within 71 feet of the permit area.
The following buffering method has been presented to Mr. Todd Richardson, of the
Citizens to Preserve Scenic 550 South, and has been deemed to be adequate to
mitigate his concerns regarding the matter.
At issue is a section of the permit area that is approximately 430 feet in length
along the north property boundary, adjacent to the Becker residence. This area
is within 200 feet of the Becker's house.
The buffering method that is to be employed consists of two types of materials.
An earthen berm will be constructed along the north portion of the property as
depicted on the enclosed map. The berm will be approximately 7 feet in height
with a base width of approximately 21 feet. The berm will be seeded with a grass
species that has been recommended by the Soil Conservation Service, probably
Sodar Streambank Wheatgrass. The berm will be provided with a sprinkling system
to irrigate the grass.
Trees will be planted in the area that is within 200 feet of the Becker
residence. Please refer to the enclosed sketches, which depict the placement of
the trees. Two types of trees will be planted in an alternating Fashion. A
deciduous type tree, probably cottonless cottonwood or similar species, and a
conifer type tree, probably a pine or juniper species will be planted on 10 ft.
centers parallel to the property line for a distance of approximately 430 feet.
The trees will be provided with an Irrigation system to assure survival.
At the culmination of mining activity, when final reclamation efforts are being
accomplished, the trees will be removed if it is the desire of Mr. Todd
Richardson of the Citizens to Preserve Scenic 550 South group.
UNITED COMPANIES OF MESA COUNTY, INC.
Paul E.
