Method of Measurement
203.10 Measured Quantities
When payment is specified on a volume basis, all accepted excavation,
stripping and borrow shall be measured in its original position by
cross-sectioning the area excavated. These measurements will include
authorized excavation of rock, shale, muck or other unsuitable mater-
ial, and overbreakage or slides in common excavation and unclassified
excavation attributable to authorized work.
When the excavation essentially conforms to the staked lines and grades,
the original cross-sections and the staked section shall be used for the
determination of volumes excavated. Volumes will be computed from the
cross-section measurements by the average end area method.
Where it is impractical to measure material by the cross-section method
due to the erratic location of isolated deposits, other acceptable
methods may be used.
Basis of Payment
203.12 The accepted quantities will be paid for at the contract price
for each of the pay items listed below that appear in the bid schedule.
Payment will be made under:
PAY ITEM PAY UNIT
Unclassified Excavation Cubic Yard
Borzow Cubic Yard
Embankment Material Cubic Yard
(Complete in Place)
All other items subsidiary to unclassified excavation, such as, but not
limited to, haul, wetting, ect., will not be paid for separately but
shall be included in the work.
