operation will normally involve an area of two to three
• acres underground. As development of the mine continues to
enlarge the area of the mine workings, the area of personnel
activity will increase as it will be necessary to maintain
and inspect periodically the areas where minable coal remains.
It is expected that approximately one year is required
to install electric power, complete access roads, construct
outside mine facilities and auxiliary buildings and prepare
the portal of the mine for mining operation. Thereafter, it
is anticipated that 60 to 90 days will be required to advance
the entries to the point where underground mining of coal
could be done on a regular tonnage or daily tonnage basis.
It will require thirty (30) years to mine the recoverable
coal as now known by the applicant to exist on the lands
held.
The surface area used for the mine buildings and the
portal facilities will be in use for the life of the mine,
reclamation to occur thereafter. During the period of
operation, waste rock accumulations will be leveled and
vehicle compacted approximately every 90 days. In the event
a dump is abandoned, it will be leveled and seeded or planted
with trees within six months of abandonment. Top soil in
the area subject to excavation is thin, if present at all,
and occurs in somewhat of a haphazard manner. To the extent
• such soils will be recoverable, they will be set aside and
later used to cover areas which will be reseeded.
As excavations proceed in the area marked on Map A-1 in
a northeasterly direction, overburden and waste material
will be stored in the area shown as existing waste dumps and
the enlarged area marked~as IV for additi al avast dump.
To the ext rrt~required, the are^~ rked-w`th-V will also be
used waste dump for overburden It i`s-an-t3cfpated that
most o he materia om excavation will be used
to create benching and platform areas suitable for coal
handling and surface buildings. Also, waste material will
be used to create access roads.
In th area designated as the gulley waste dump area
C (IV), wash rock debris will be benched along the 7,180 foot
contour and natural sorting of eluvium will occur. No
effort will be made to~ecctver topsoil as the gulley is too
narrow and rocky foz~ the acc~i ulation of soil. In the
Dudley waste dump area (V), e forts will be made to recover
what limited top oil occurs rior to utilization of this
area before placing waste- ock and overburden therein.
As indicated, all waste areas will be leveled and
compacted approximately every 90 days and terraced and
contoured in such a fashion to blend with the existing
topography.
•
- 12 -
