The Ryan Park series is a member of the coarse-loamy, mixed
• family of Borollic Haplargids. Ryan Park soils commonly have
brown, very friable fine sandy loam B2t horizons having prismatic
and subangular blocky structure; and brownish gray, very friable
fine sandy loam C horizons with visible lime accumulations.
The Ryan Park series are deep soils formed on alluvial fans
of calcareous sandstone material. They are gently to moderately
sloping, well-drained, moderately permeable with medium runoff.
Surface textures are sandy loam to fine sandy loam. The control
section has greater than 35 percent fine sand or coarser and less
than 18 percent clay.
Typifying pedon, Ryan Park very fine sandy loam:
Al (0-1") - Dark grayish brown (lOYR 9/2) very fine sandy loam,
very dart, grayish brown (lOYR 3/2) moist; weak fine
granular structure; soft, very friable, nonsticky and
nonplastic; many fine and very fine roots; slightly acid
(pH 6.1); clear smooth boundary.
• A2 (1-6") - Light yellowish brown (lOYR 6/4) fine sandy loam,
yellowish brown (lOYR 5/4) moist; weak fine granular
structure; soft, very friable; nonsticky and nonplastic;
many fine and very fine roots; neutral (pH 6.9); clear
smooth boundary.
B2t (6-12") - Brown (lOYR 5/3) fine sandy loam, dark brown
(lOYR 4/3) moist; moderate medium prismatic structure
parting to moderate medium subangular blocky; slightly
hard, friable, slightly sticky and slightly plastic;
many moderately thick clsy films on faces of peds; common
fine and very fine roots; slightly effervescent; neutral
(pH 7.2); gradual smooth boundary.
Baca (12-38") - Pale brown (lOYR 6/3) fine sandy loam; brown
(lOYR 5/3) moist; weak medium subangular blocky structure;
slightly hard, friable, slightly sticky and slightly
plastic; few thin clay films on faces of peds; effervescent;
common fine soft rounded masses of visible secondary
calcium carbonate; mildly alkaline (pH 7.7); gradual wavy
boundary.
•
-3-
