Included in this mapping are small areas of Boettcher and Bundyman
• soils.
The Spicerton series is a member of the fine montmorillonitic
family of Borollic Natragids. Spicerton soils have yellowish
brown sandy loam, very friable, medium granular A horizons; and
pale brown clayey, very hard, coarse angular blocky B and C
horizons. Calcium carbonate usually accumulates at the lower
portion of the B and upper portion of the C horizons. Spicerton
soils are high in sodium in the lower portion of the profile.
The Spicerton series are deep soils formed in alluvial
sediment from the Coalmont Formation. They are well to moderately
well drained. Runoff is rapid.
Surface textures range from sandy loams to loams.
Typifying pedon, Spicerton sandy loam:
• Al (0-6") - Yellow brown (lOYR 5/4) sandy loam, dark yellowish
brown (lOYR 4/4) moist; moderate, medium granular
structure; soft, friable slightly sticky; very few fine
roots; neutral to mildly alkaline (pH 6.7-7.4); clear
smooth boundary.
B2 (6-18") - Light yellowish brown (lOYR 6/4) sandy loam, dark
yellowish brown (lOYR 4/4) moist; strong, very coarse,
singular blocky structure; extremely hard, extremely firm,
slightly sticky; few fine and medium roots; mildly alkaline
(pH 7.7-7.8); clear wavy boundary.
B21tsa (18-32") - Very pale brown (lOYR 7/3) clay, brown (lOYR
5. 3) moist; moderate, coarse, angular blocky structure,
very hard, very firm, very sticky; patchy clay films on
peds and in pores; accumulation of soluble salts; strongly
calcareous; mildly to moderately alkaline (pH 7.3-7.9);
diffuse wavy boundary.
Csa (32-60") - Light yellowish brown (lOYR 6/4) silty clay,
yellowish brown (lOYR 5/4) moist; hard, firm, very sticky;
crystals, concretions, seams and streaks of soluble salts;
strongly calcareous; slightly acid to mildly alkaline
(pH 6.5-7.4).

-11-
