TR9PPER MINING INC.
,.~....~
III IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
May 29, 1990
CERTIFIED #P568141748
~~~=~~~
Section Chief
Colorado Dept. of Health ,JAN 1 'i:)'?L
Waste Management Division MIN~~ i.4P)G
Underground Tank Program _
4210 East 11th Ave. =~~_AMATIOPi ~IV1~"- ~1
Denver, CO 80220
Dear Sir:
Subject: Site Assessment for Underground Storage Tank Closure
Recently Trapper Mining Inc, removed three underground waste oil tanks
(one 4,000-gallon, one 2,000-gallon, and one 350-gallon) at its facility
located 6-1/2 miles south of Craig, Colorado (see attached map). All
tank removal procedures were in accordance with applicable and current
state and federal regulations.
- A site assessment and waste sludge composition determination were per-
formed for each underground tank as it was removed from the ground.
Prior to tank removal and following the establishment of our surface
waste oil storage system, a sample of the waste oil sludge from each
tank was taken and analyzed as to the hazardous nature of the waste
material. Analysis performed included the following parameters:
TOX (Total organic halogens)
BTEX (Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene, Xylene)
flashpoint
EP toxicity for metals
Attached are waste sludge analysis reports provided by ACZ Laboratories
in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Based on these analyses (non-hazardous
or toxic) the material (approximately 1,000 gallons) was transported and
disposed of by Conservation Services, Inc., Denver, Colorado. Attached
is an Industrial Waste Disposal Manifest provided to Trapper Mine by
Conservation Services Inc, (No. 030022; CSI waste code no. CO-02-042090-
03639). The empty waste oil tanks will either be sold to a local scrap
metal dealer or disposed of in out active mine pit.
Underground tanks were excavated with a backhoe and removal procedures
monitored by Trapper Environmental Quality, Engineering, and Safety per-
sonnel. A Colorado Registered Professional Engineer (Roger Fish,
#26063) was on hand to evaluate and docwnenC our findings (see attached
correspondence).
P.0.
