., . .
Mr. Smyth
August 27, 1980
Page Two

lands to be affected by the operation, stockpiled (and kept segregated
from other materials or screening mounds), and stabilized until utilized
for reclamation. Please state the anticipated depth !in inches) in which
topsoil will be reapplied to all affected areas during reclamation (top-
soiling need not occur on areas to be ponded).
5. RE: Davis Ranch and Koenig Pits:
Please specify the seed mixture and associated rates and methods of appli-
cation for the above pits. AI1ow for possible fertilization, mulching, or
other soil amendments if such amendments are found to be necessary later
on during the reclamation phase of the operation as a result of soil tests,
observation, or other reasons. Such soil treatments or amendments should
also be considered for the Pierce Pit.
6. RE: Davis Ranch Pit:
The Division of Wildlife report indicates the seasonal use of this area
by bald eagles. The operation must consider the protection of this species
during this critical period and therefore no mining should occur at the
site, nor other associated activities, during this period (as yet unspeci-
fied by the Division of Wildlife). Further, as the operation must protect
the habitat of this species which is predominantly mature cottonwood trees
please identify .existing mature cottonwood trees on the site and take mea-
sures not to disturb them during the course of the operation. Cottonwood
trees which cannot be protected, should be identified. The use of cotton-
wood cuttings or seedlings in the revegetation plan is encouraged.
7. RE: Davis Ranch, Koenig, and Pierce Pits:
Please submit proof of publication and notifications of adjacent land-
owners for the above pits prior to the Board meeting.
The Mined Land Reclamation Board will consider this application at the
August 28, 1980 Board meeting.
If you have any questions, or need additional assistance, please contact me.
Sincerely,
Brad Jane
Reclamation Specialist
cc: Dick Lefle-
