Box 758 <br />Greeley, Colorado 80631 <br />RE: Koenig Pit <br />Pierce Pit <br />Davis Ranch Pit <br />applications for <br />adequacy <br />Dear Mr. Smyth: <br />- Our File: N80-120 <br />- Our File: k80-121 <br />- Our File: X80-122 <br />regular impact permits <br />for open pit gravel operations, <br />I have reviewed the above applications for adequacy and have the following <br />questions, comments, and suggestions which are intended to aid you in bringing <br />your application into full compliance with the law and to the satisfaction of <br />the Mined Land Reclamation Board. Please address each of the following items <br />in detail: <br />RE: Davis ranch and Koenig Pits: <br />In order to provide fora more suitable wildlife environment, please allow <br />for some irregular patterns in the shorelinE (with shallows if possible) <br />and in the pit floor. Such irregular patterns in the shoreline tend to <br />induce avifauna and terrestrial wildlife to [he area in preference to non- <br />irregular patterned sihorelines typically created by such operations. Further, <br />irregularities in the pond floors provide suitable shelter for fish. <br />2. RE: Koenig Pit: <br />Please give a quantitative description of the percent cover of the major <br />plant species presently occurring on the site. <br />3. RE: Davis Ranch and Koenig Pits: <br />Please acknowledge that the operation shall maintain a minimum 100 foot <br />buffer strip between the operation and the Cache La Poudre River and the <br />South Platte River, respectively. <br />4. RE: Davis Ranch, Koenig, and Pierce Pits: <br />Please acknowledge that topsoil will be removed, stockpiled and kept <br />segregated from other materials. <br />Please acknowledge that topsoil will be removed prior to disturbance of <br />
