Box 841
Canon City, Co 81215
Dear Ms. Bellantoni,
I have received the seed mix recommended by the NRCS for the reclamation of the
proposed mining area at Fawn Hollow. Although this mix is suitable for soil
stabilization may I suggest some changes which may benefit wildlife in the area,
particularly Bighorn Sheep.
Blue Grama 40°~
Buffalo Grass 25%
Side oats Grama 10%
Western Wheat 10%
Four Wing Saltbush 15°~
Total 100%
On top of this mix I would recommend 11b. Per acre of inoculated yellow sweet clover
as a nitrogen fixer for the soil and to promote diversity in the form of a fort species.
Once again, I would like to stress the Division of Wildlife would like to be involved as
much as possible to mitigate impacts to this critical habitat. We would like to offer
further suggestions in reclaiming the area to suitable conditions to promote a viable
herd of Bighorn Sheep in the area, and offer assistance in your project plans which
would exercise as little impact as possible to the area.
Thank you for the opportunity to comment on this issue. If you have any questions,
please feel free to reach officer Harper or myself at 719-561909.
Sin
Kevin ma k~~
Habitat Biolog st
Area 11
DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RE90URCE9, Oreg E.
