If a seed drill can be used, the
rates of seeding will be halved and mountain mahogany seed not
included (and later seeded by hand).
- Where seeded by the broadcast method, mechanical means will be
used, where possible, in order to give about 0.5 inch of soil
cover over the seed.
- Seeding will take place from November 1 - April 30, in order to
take advantage of available soil moisture conditions during
germination and early growth.
- Seeded areas will be fertilized with 40 lbs. available nitrogen
and 40 lbs. available phosphorus per acre.
- Hay mulch will be applied at a rate of two tons/ac., and either
mechanically crimped or netted to reduce blowing.
- The access road will be left intact upon completion of mining
and reclamation to afford access to the area.
- The property will be protected from grazing by livestock during
the first two years following reclamation (the area property is
presently fenced and livestock will be prohibited from entering).
- The reclaimed slopes will be visually monitored and additional
measures will be taken, if necessary, to control erosion (e.g.,
contour furrows, repair of any eroded areas, etc.).
- In addition to the existing fences, a 5-strand barbed wire
fence will be constructed along the slope above the westerly side
of the pit wall.
