1
' Minor grading will also occur along the crown of the bench to assist in

1
1

1

1

~~
shedding runoff. The long dimension of the mine bench will slope towards
the south at about a 7 to 10 percent grade. The mine bench is anticipated
to be around 150 feet or so in width.
In order to minimize the size of water catchment areas and length of
slope on the mine bench, drainage to the outside of the bench will be
controlled by the construction of several simple periodic swales across the
bench. These will be constructed subperpendicular to the direction of
slope and will function to divert water to the adjacen[ slope; riprap will
be placed at outfall areas where the runoff is directed in order to
minimize incision and sedimentation potential. In addition, ditches along
the access road and the minor sediment trap described in Exhibit B will
remain on site until vegetation has been established with sufficient cover
to minimize erosion.
During the course of operations, any recoverable topsoil will be
stripped and stockpiled for use in reclamation. Additionally, any sediment
which may accumulate in the sediment trap will be removed and used as a
growth medium to augment the available soil. Any soil salvaged will be
placed on the mine bench and adjacent disturbed areas to a minimum depth of
about 6 inches to the extent soil is available. Live handling of soil will
occur when possible. Each mound of overburden backfilled against the
highwall will be planted with 12 one-inch diameter ponderosa pine. The
disturbed areas will be reseeded will the mixture given below. This grass
mixture, and seeding rates, was recommended by the Jefferson County Soil
Conservation District (and approved as part of the rezoning) for the
affected area following a review of the company's application to Jefferson
County.
