This unit
is 50 percent Torriorthents and 30 percent Haplargids. The Haplargids
are on the .less sloping pcrtions of the map unit.. The average annual
precipitation is about 14 to 19 inches, the average annual air tempera-
ture is 45 to 50 degrees F, and the average frost-free season is 100 to
130 days.
These soils vary considerably but typically the Torriorthents surface
layers are gravelly or cobbly loam or fine sandy loam. The subs[ratums
are very gravelly or cobbly ou[wash material. Typically, the Haplargids
surface layers are gravelly or cobbly loam or fine sandy loam. The substratums are very gravelly or cobbly outwash material:j
<; J.
Included in [his unit :~.s about 15 percent soils overlying bedrock a[
depths of 40 inches or Less and small areas of shale and sandstone outcrops.
Permeabili~.y of these soils vary dene~ding on the texture of the
parent material. Available water capacity is low. Effective rooting
depth is 40 inches cr more. Runoff is rapid, and the hazard of water
erosion is severe.
