.~
Mr. Robert Sieyrist
March 3, 1982
Page -3-
3. The statement that "All finished slopes adjacent to water
surfaces will have a finished slope no~steeper than 3:1" is
f inadequate. This statement should read as follows," A11 finished
slopes from 5 feet above to 10 feet below the expected eaater
line will have a slope no steeper than 3 horizontal to 1
vertical."
4. Please provide a permanent grass mixture for this site
incorporating both native grasses and forbs.
S. The staff suggests that a mixture of the following trees
and shrubs be randomly planted:
Trees
Siberian elm
Plains cottonwood
hackberry
boxelder
Russian olive
Shrubs
Skunkbush sumac
American plum
Siberian peashrub
Chokecherry
Hanson hedgerose
Western sandcherry
Willow
The trees should be randomly planted at 20-30 foot spacings
and the shrubs should be clumped 6-8 feet apart with 6-10 of the
same species per clump. The clumps should be spaced 50 to 75
feet apart after planting, a 3 foot water catchment basin should
be created around each plant, immediately watered and mulched
with wood chips. The seedlings should be watered 2-3 times during
late spring and summer for the first 3 years. The expected
survival would be about 50 to 75 percent.
Please let me know if there is a problem with following
this suggestion.
6. Please state how many acres of Land surface will need grading
and topsoiling.
7. The staff recommends that the operator commit to a definite
range of topsoil replacement. A review of the site and the soil
infoz•mation indicates that it would be possible to salvage enough
topsoil to replace to a depth range of at least 8 to 12 inches.
8. To increase wildlife use of the lakes, the staff recommends
that the operator commit to the following:
a. Irregular shorelines should be incorporated into the plan
and portrayed of~ the reclamation plan map•
b. Shallow areas should be created to provide for emergent
aquatic vegetation.
