~~ ~_Gs9
June 25, 2002 RE~E'~~~
Jug o z zooz
~~ Division of Minerals and Geology ~ C'gd"" ~Ci+~~
1313 Sherman St. 'n~ ~LS~Rtlivision of Minerals and Geology
Room 215
Denver, Colorado 80203
/ -7
RE: Sunbeam Pit #1 application for mining permit
rh z~ a-os~
Deaz Division:
-This letter is in reference to a permit appLcaticr. filed :vith your divisicn by the
~~ ~ Moffat County Road De an rtment for the purpose of a gravel and sand excavation pit
which will be located in Moffat County neaz the town of Sunbeam and which is proposed
to be operated approximately 1300 feet from our private property. The proposed mine is
known a un eam Pit #1.
We very much oppose the creation of this mining site as it will impact our lives
and the enjoyment of our property for the following reasons:
1. The pit will be located approximately 1300 feet from our private property.
2. The pit will be southwest from our property causing dirt and dust filtration to our
property as the prevailing winds are from the southwest almost without exception.
3. Currently we have a hunt camp business located on our property that will be
constantly subject to noise, dust, and unsightly mining operations.
4. The noise of the mining equipment will be unbearable.
5. The truck traffic on the access road will cause an unbearable amount of dirt and
noise.
6. The application states that the access road is a public road, yet we pay a lease to
the State Land Boazd to use that road as do our neighbors, the Noonans.
7. We have spoken with the Moffat County Road Department and stated our
objections to this mining operation and inquired as to the reason we were never
contacted about this mining project in the beginning and planning stages. The
Road Department has no explanation as to the reasons we were excluded in tine
early stages of the mine's development. Yet, our neighbors, the Brannons, were
contacted in May of 2001, and informed of the intent to create a mine. Yampa
Valley Electric and Century Tel were contacted and informed of the intent to
create a mine. Our house and property which can be seen from the mine site, has
clearly been visible to those involved in the creation of this proposed mine and we
were never, informed as to it's proposed creation.
8. This area is wintering ground for elk, deer, antelope and a number of other
wildlife. Amine will most certainly drive the animals from their winter ground.
