C-1(a) and Exhibit F, Figure F-1. The text of Exhibit G of the 112 Permit
Application and the Groundwater and Surface Water Monitoring Plan provide
more information regarding surface water on affected or adjacent lands.
(b) Groundwater information can be found in the 112 Permit Application,
Exhibit G. Subsurface flow information is given in the Groundwater and Surface
Water Monitoring Plan, Section 2.0, Figure 1.
(c) The geologic stratigraphy down to and including the Upper Aquifer is
illustrated in the Groundwater and Surface Water Monitoring Plan, Section 2.0,
Figure 2.
(d) The only fracture system identified at the Piceance Site is an apparent
graben beneath the 25-30 year mining panel. This feature appears on a United
States Geological Survey (USGS) geologic map of the Piceance Basin (Hail and
Smith, 1994)', and its location is indicated on the attached Figure 1. A qualified
geologist has reviewed aerial photographs and investigated the site, and no
expression of this feature could be identified on the landscape. Consequently,
the referenced feature is not believed to be a major fracture system.
(ej The hydrogeoiogy of the Piceance Creek Basin is described in the 112
Permit Application, Exhibit D and Exhibit G, and the Groundwater and Surface
Water Monitoring Plan.
(9) (a) The existing and reasonably potential future groundwater uses on and
adjacent to the Piceance Site are crop irrigation, domestic, livestock, and
industrial wells.
(b) Five successive quarters of groundwater quality monitoring data will be
submitted prior to commencement of operations as specified in the Groundwater
and Surface Water Monitoring Plan, Section 1.0, Introduction.
(c) DMG representatives were consulted during development of the
Groundwater and Surface Water Monitoring Plan.
(10) (a) Design specifications for the 1-acre stormwater retention pond have been
submitted to the DMG as a technical revision. Please refer to the letter dated
April 16, 1999, providing this revision.
(i) Not applicable. American Soda will not use designated
chemicals in its mining operations.
Hail, W.J. and M. C. Smith (1994), "Geologic Map of the Northern Part of the Piceance Creek Basin,
Northwestern CO" USGS, Miscellaneous Investigntions Srries.
A-4
