P,2 Tumer to the
Div. Of Mines
and Geology
Pefiaps some early feeling for the likelihood of such airborne
contamination at the planned quarry site can be obtained by
examining drilling records from the Frei Quarry located about two miles
to the southwest.
We appreciate the requirement for the project applicant fo notify in
advance the property owners who are proximal to the proposed
project. The other requirement for three consecutive notifications via
a local Newspaper of Record is also admirable. However, when the
project is on the edge of that newspaper's area of coverage and the
possibly adversely affected population largely resides in an adjacent
county (Jefferson in this case), there is little wonder that problematic
projects can fly below the radar and be approved. This poor natice
problem is further compounded by the very small size of text typically
used in such in such Public Notices.
Certainly, given of the above comments and observations, and the decision
date occurring during the year-end holiday season, an extension of the
period for outside response is in order.
Sincerely,
I.L.
